From '08 to '15 - mi
In AutoCAD '15We're switching (2 drafters) from a manufacturing program using AutoCAD '08 to a new program running on '15 and looking for some old functions I can't find. I've looked for each of these functions on-line and in books, but I may be searching with poor word choice.
Specifically:
Clone line - a segment of a larger entity is "cloned" in the direction and distance you select.Example: a rectangle - type keyboard shortcut (CL), select segment (one side of rectangle) and enter dir. + distance as you would move or copy. This reproduces the segment (single line) of the larger entity at your entered distance away.
Move/ Copy / Stetch incorporating pick-points distance with the abitilty to + x dim or - Y dim. Our '08 was modified with a splash screen that showed direction, then you could pick points distance than + or - addl dimension.
Our old software was tweaked quite a bit by its inventor, but he's long been our of the picture.
We've got a learning curve ahead as we've got to familiarize ourselves with the new functinality of the '15 platform as well as the new manufacturing software so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! Sounds like you might be in need of a couple of custom lisp routines. You've got a lot of variables and depending on the extent of the customization may be quite difficult to track down.
Are you at all familiar with customizing AutoCAD?
You say that you are switching from one program to another. If it is a different program and not just a newer version of the old one, those commands may not be available but may have something similar.
If the old software is still installed and functioning, it may be possible to track down the customizations. Not familiar with customizing, no, but in time - eventually -I may dabble. There's a lot to tackle as it is with the new software, existing work flow, submitalls, and having to pump info out to guys on the shop floor.Oh well, at least we're busy.
Thanks! You could always make a request in the AutoLISP forum for assistance with writing a lisp routine. It would help if you provided a good description of what you are seeking to do and indicate what user input will be required. What about the software? Is it different or just a newer version?
If you want to narrow down what happened to those commands, you are going to have to provide more information. New software, different program. To my knowledge, the old program was heavily modified by its creator and some guy in Russia. Both are out of the picture / known existence. The new software (Microvellum) runs on the AutoCAD platform.
I've searched many files and can't find anything relating, but I've always used the program as plug and play as they had it pretty honed in when I came on board. So, those command are most likely different or do not exist in the new software and a different approach will be needed to accomplish the same tasks. Possibly with LISP as ReMark mentioned earlier. Thanks for the input.
I'll check out the autolisp forum and come up with a concise description of what I'm looking for.
I appreciate your responses. How did the program work in the 08 version was it a lot of lisps ? Then the commands your looking for may be there but you have to load them to use in 2015
