Can i flatten a DWG,

To detach the images, open your XREF manager, select the images, right click, and detach. What you want is to bind the images to your drawing, not flatten. The FLATTEN command is a different thing. Just follow RobDraw's suggestion and you'll get what you want. I guess he could have meant bind, which is different from what I thought, and is an entirely different procedure. When i take my laptop home, my blocks and images are referenced to a folder on the server... when i do work from home and open a dwg it just displays the file path... sorry if i seem a dumb... Your not dumb...this is a common problem for folks. If you use the XREF command you'll get a dialog window which will allow you to BIND all the XREF's to you're drawing file. These XREF's will become blocks stored in your file. Now as for blocks, unless they've been inserted into the drawing, they will not exist in your drawing file. You can insert each block into a drawing. Just insert it on any point you like. Now delete the block and it's no longer visible, but it's still stored in your drawing file. I don't know exactly how many blocks you're wanting to make part of your file, but I have a couple of files which have about 100 blocks included with them. It will make your file size bigger, much bigger in some cases, but these days with drive space being so plentiful and cheap, who really counts bytes anymore. If you're talking about 1,000's of blocks and/or XREF's it may not be such a good idea unless you create a server in your home which uses the same paths as the one at your work location. If these files are set-up with XREFs, it probably is for a reason. If you want to maintain the XREF functionality, I would recommend that you make sure you have a copy of each of those XREFs on your laptop. plus, images cannot be bound in the manner suggested by Mr. Tillman.
Talk to you CAD manager about the proper procedure for working on these files remotely. You might look into eTransmit.
