Opening files?

This has got to be one of those "I-should-know-this" questions. but frustration is setting inand angertoo. When I go to open a file in Autocad 2011 instead of opening the directory (allowing me to sift through the variuous folders and find what I'm looking for) down in the command line it wants me to type in the file name I want. The file names are long (anyway) and typing one in is not going to happen, I'd rather just click on the file from the directory and have it go there. This just began happening two days ago and I have no idea what I did or if it is now 'broken'. When I do not type in some file name the screen freezes up and I have to log back out and sometimes even hard-stop shuttdown the computer!Aaaarrrrrgggggggg

Aaaah, I think part of my problem is that I have "AutoCAD Architecture 2011". And I think it is a bit different than AutoCAD (like you guys are talking about??). anyway I put SVSVDLG into the command line and I got "unknown command"; I then put "autocad system variables dialog" into Google and got this link:http://autocadtips.wordpress.com/2010/11/06/system-variables-dialog-box/"AND that looks interesting!! I then went to the (as the link states); "There is tool found at: Express Tools Tab > Tools panel > System Variables Or the command = SYSVDLG "

But seem not to have the express tools tab!I'm a mess, huh?

You can run AutoCAD Architecture as vanilla AutoCAD if desired.
Start>Autodesk>AutoCAD Architecture>Run as AutoCAD(you might want to right click drag and copy an AutoCAD start icon to the desktop for future use.
