Changing/scaling just the y-di

Hello Forum.
I have been working on a project and ran into some complications. I have an object that I would like to scale the length down, but leave the height and width as they are. I read around and found out I can use block and use that to scale the object. however, once I usedblock I was not able to use the Boolean operators to subtract from the newly scaled object. If I hold my mouse over the object, it is a called a block reference. My question is, is there a way to change the y-dimension but still be able to play around with the object?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

As indicated by eldon - you need to explode the block to get back to Boolean solid operations.
But you should be looking into the solidedit commands if this is a relatively simple part, otherwise - carry on with the Block scaling techinque.
