Speed up large X-ref'd An

Sorry for the ambiguous thread title.

Over the passed few weeks I've been going through and changing our campus maps to make use of the Annotative function. It's been quite a slow and painful process, but the real issue I'm having now is the file size has now tripled, in some cases even quadrupled.

This in itself is fine, but it's when we have 3 or 4 dwg's x-ref'd, the computer becomes really sluggish & sometimes even crashes. My question would be how to trim down these files so they aren't so big and turn my computer into mush.

I've thought about purging any unused items, deleting unused layers/x-ref scales, unifying the blocks throughout all the drawings & wblock them in from a central legend file.

Any other bright ideas?

try resetting your scalelists.
-scalelistedit>reset>yes
dont forget to include the "-" sign

Cheers, will do.

Also sifted through some older threads.
Adding AUDIT to the list & getting rid of any excess viewports & layout tabs.

also do a scalelist reset on your xref files, or else those unwanted scales will just reappear on the file using the xrefs.

haha, yea. I found that out.
I had to edit an xref in an xref to get rid of the ghost scales
