Importing from McMaster-Carr

McMaster-Carr has 2 and 3 D designs of their parts. Is there a way to import a drawing and convert it to a part to add to something you are working on? I managed to import the 2D drawing of part 1088A21, but cannot figure out what to do next.

I can also import the part into Inventor, is there a way to get it from Inventor into AutoCAD?

Thanks

What do you mean when you say you imported a drawing. What format are these drawings? I checked their site, but couldn't find any CAD drawings, only images.

If you click the download button on the top toolbar (near small, large, print) it allows you to download the drawing in different formats.

If the file is downloaded in STEP format then it can be imported into Inventor, STICHed, then “Save Copy As” as a *.sat.

Under the INSERT menu in AutoCAD, ACIS file. . .

The file imports as this.
1088a21.dwg

After you download the file my suggestion is to open the drawing you just downloaded before you insert it into your drawing and make adjustments to the layer settings, colors, etc.

There are no standards to vendors drawings so anything you download will have multple configurations, non of which will comply to your standard.

You may want to also spot check critical geometry for correctness (bolt patterns, mounting surfaces...) You might be surprized at how well (not) some drawings are constructed.
