Title/ drawing page set up tem

I'm going to take the computer home tonight so that I can set up as many drawing templates that I will conceivable need at work.

Are there any special ways to go about this or CAD standards that I should observe?

I mostly use A3 and A4 paper for architectural metric drawings.

Is it worth making me own templates so that I can just jump into future drawings or is it better to download templates from the internet?

I put all my sheet layouts in one template.
I don't like to have to try to figure out in advance what sheet I'm going to end up plotting before I even start drawing.
Usually I do know, but sometimes I change my mind in the middle of a design. Anyway - it is all there in one template.

All sheet layouts in one template is the way you should go as suggested by JDM.

I think you should try your hand at designing one yourself just for the sheer enjoyment of the exercise.

I have a template (.dwt) file with all my settings for layers, dimstyles, mleader styles, etc in there. I have multiple drawing border files in separate .dwg files that are always xrefed in after starting a new drawing with the .dwt file. I generally only use three title block sizes. With the push of a button the title block is xrefed in and a file with attributes is inserted. Any changes in the titleblock can be made in one place and the changes appear everywhere.

It is better to make your own title block file(s) so it is specific to your needs, same with template (.dwt) files.

If you do different types of work i.e. mechanical one day, civil the next and on Fridays architectural.... you might want to create a template for each type of work. Generating good templates actually involves a lot of thinking. Especially if you have multiple users the first step in enforcing standards is to have everyone using an agreed upon standard template. This is something you want to get right the first time so that it becomes something you no longer need to think about. Set it and forget it!

Thanks for the replies. I'll put A1-A4 layouts in one template per discipline for both metric and imperial.

Do you draw the border and title block in model or paper space?

If it helps I have just done this for my new employer, we use two different templates but on each one I have all the sheet sizes I will use so when I start a new drawing I choose which template then I can choose which sheet to use at whatever scale or I can use them all.

Thanks for your replies. I have an A3 template and I have drawn a floor plan onto it.

For some reason, the very simple task of finding the areas of the rooms isn't working.

I can measure lines and angles but for some reason, the area command isn't working. When I right click enter, it reads "Point or option keyboard required".

What is going on?

There is something wrong with the scale. To fill the viewport in a layout tab on the A3, I have to use a scale of 10:1, the required scale is 1:100 but that makes the plan look like a postage stamp!

Re: scale. Did you inadvertently use an imperial template instead of a metric template?
