Exporting to SVG?

Hi,

I'm completely new to AutoCAD so please excuse my ignorance. I have about 100 DWG files that I would like to convert to SVG (Scalable vector graphics) files so that I can create an interactive map on my website. Basically I need SVG files so that I can add effects to the map and tie in my database of details.

I know there are converters out there which apparently convert DWG to SVG and however they all seem to cost money, however I was led to believe that I could save to an SVG from within AutoCAD. Is this true and if so how do I do it? Otherwise, does anyone have any good advice on converting from DWG to SVG

No, you cannot save or export to SVG from Autocad.

You can download a free CAD to SVG converter at Cnet.com. The only annoying thing about it is that when you close the app it fires up your web browser and takes you to the companies website, but that's the price you pay for freeware apps. Other than that, it seems to work fine.

I think he is right on this subject.

But, I sort of remember back in my mind that the *.SVG file format was reserved for an automatic save file format as used by Autocad. In some booklet, is says NOT to use such an extension, just because of this. The files may be temporary, but necessary. They may exist for only a few seconds, but cannot use such a title as I remember when using certain versions of Autocad.

The autosave extension is *.sv$

Get Adobe Illustrator, maybe the 30 day full demo will work long enough. It can open dwg and save as svg.
